The Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter signed a five-year partnership agreement with the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Scranton, Allentown and Philadelphia area offices. In addition, the chapter is partnering with the Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s (IUP) OSHA Program for the first time ever.

“The ABC Eastern Pa. Chapter recognizes the importance of providing a safe and healthy work environment for all construction employees” said Mary Tebeau, ABC Eastern Pa. Chapter president and CEO. The chapter has had a relationship with OSHA since 2001.

“These partnerships help foster mutual trust and respect for the roles each organization plays in ensuring a safe construction work environment,” Tebeau said.

The agreement with the Scranton, Allentown and Philadelphia area offices provides incentives to ABC contractors that voluntary participate in ABC’s Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP). STEP is an objective tool that allows contractors to evaluate and strengthen their safety programs. Incentives include entry to safety mentor events and non-enforcement worksite consultations.

Through the partnership with IUP, ABC members have access to the university’s OSHA consultants, which offer hands-on safety training.

The goal of both partnerships is to increase awareness of safety on the job site and decrease injuries, illnesses and fatalities for all construction workers.
