Above ground diesel fuel tanks are most likely to be exposed to the worst weather conditions when the temperature drops below freezing. Refueling vehicles and equipment is vital to continuing operations. Operators may be tempted to remove the tank filter to allow fuel to pass when the filter plugs up because of diesel fuel gelling. E TIP, Inc. reports that its research reveals that 98% of fuel flow problems in cold weather are caused right in the filter when the paraffin separates out (fuel gelling) plugging the filter.
