Atlas Copco Construction Tools LLC’s SB 552 is the largest model in the new generation of Atlas SB hydraulic breaker attachments. The new breaker is ideal for a multitude of applications including demolition, road construction, building renovation, foundation work, trenching, landscaping and secondary breaking.

Responding to customer demands for a larger solid-body breaker model, the 1,149-lb. (521 kg) SB 552 weighs 210 lbs. (95 kg) more than the SB 450, the largest model in the previous Atlas Copco SB line. The new breaker offers a high power-to-weight ratio and is suitable for carriers in the 9.9- to 16.5-ton (9 to 15 t) weight class.

The SB 552 delivers a maximum impact rate of 1,080 blows per minute and requires oil flow of 17.2 to 30.4 gal. (65 to 115 L) per minute at a pressure range of 1,450 to 2,180 psi.

The solid body concept of the SB range features a one-piece design that contains all integral parts in the same iron alloy casting for strength and reliability.

The SB 552 has fewer parts than competitive models as it does not utilize side bolts and separate components for the front head, cylinder and back head. Additionally, the breaker’s slimline design allows for better operator visibility and easy positioning in confined spaces, according to the manufacturer.

Routine maintenance of the SB 552 is simple due to a limited number of moving parts and a replaceable floating bushing. The bushing’s increased length provides maximum tool guidance to reduce off-line movement and subsequent tool wear. The breaker also has a wide shank diameter to withstand bending stress and abuse during operation. A new hammer mechanism with recoil dampening significantly reduces vibrations and noise emissions.

For added equipment reliability, the SB 552 features a built-in pressure relief valve as standard equipment to protect the breaker from exceeding recommended operating pressure. The accumulator has been cast into the main body of the breaker for a more rugged design, and uses a new charge valve, which is now flush with the accumulator cover for optimum protection.

These new features eliminate the step of unbolting the accumulator when re-sealing the breaker and the need for constant charging of the accumulator.

The SB 552 is covered by a limited three-year warranty.
