In 2010, the Construction Association of Michigan (CAM), Bloomfield Hills, is celebrating the 125th anniversary of its founding in 1885.

Formed by 21 prominent leaders of the Detroit construction industry as the Builders and Traders Exchange, CAM has grown and evolved over the past 125 years.

Today, CAM is more than 3,200 members strong and prides itself on being the most resourceful association for those in Michigan’s commercial construction industry.

CAM received an official commendation from the office of Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Lt. Gov. John Cherry in recognition of its 125th milestone anniversary.

CAM is the oldest and largest regional construction association in the United States, governed by a 12-member board of directors elected by its membership. CAM provides leadership on key issues such as regulatory reform; economic development; workers’ compensation and unemployment compensation; continuing education; labor relations service; complete safety training programs and consultation; ongoing legislative relations; and public awareness efforts. CAM acquired the Tri-City Builders Exchange (TCBX) of Bay City, Saginaw and Midland in January 2008, opening a second location for its members.

CAM produces several publications, many of which are also accessible online. Electronic Construction Project News covers bidding activity throughout the state; weekly Construction Pre-View containing information about projects in the design stage; monthly CAM Magazine features industry-related articles and current people and product news; and the annual CAM Buyers Guide is a comprehensive directory of construction service providers located in Michigan. Online versions include CAM Magazine Online, the Electronic CAM Buyers Guide, and the Online Planroom.

CAM also hosts several networking and social events for its members, including the CAM Connect series of networking evenings, sporting clays, golf outings, and bowling tournaments and leagues.
