The Case 400 Series 3 line of skid steer loaders feature powerful engines, a roomy, comfortable cab and improved serviceability, according to the manufacturer.
Clean-burning, Tier III certified engine power is available on the Case 410, 420, 430, 435, 440, 445, 450 and 465 skids steers. Net horsepower for the line ranges from 57 to 83 (42 to 62 kW).
The 410 Series 3 is powered by an ISM 2.2-L turbocharged engine. The 420, 430, 435 and 445 Series 3 machines boast Case 3.2-L turbocharged engines. The 440, 450, and 465 Series 3 skid steer loaders are powered by a 4.5-L turbocharged Case engine.
In addition to Tier III certification, these engines provide improved torque, which increases performance across the line.
Comfort in The Cab
“Operator comfort is a big factor in productivity,” said Jim Hughes, Case brand marketing manager. “That’s why Case is always striving to improve the cab and operator’s platform when designing and upgrading models.”
The cabs available for all Case Series 3 models feature a 7-percent increase in headroom and 6-percent increase in lap-bar width, along with improved forward, side, rear and overhead visibility. The 435, 445, 450 and 465 Series 3 models offer a 20-percent increase in front glass area, while the 410, 420, 430 and 440 Series 3 units record an 81-percent increase.
On the interior, a suspension seat comes standard, while a cushioned lap bar with arm rest and ergonomically designed control handles provide more comfort and space when operating the machines. The parking brake has been relocated to the handle, and text labels for switches make the environment more user-friendly. The foot throttle also is standard on all models, allowing operators to easily control RPMs. The hand throttle was relocated on the Series 3 410, 420, 430 and 440 to be the same as the larger models. Also standard on the machines are the headliner, backup alarm and horn, footrest, 12v power plug, storage tray and cup holder.
On the exterior, side lighting provides full visibility to the sides during nighttime operation. A standard overhead window with more punch-outs than previous models provides enhanced visibility to the loader arms when the bucket is in the raised position. The redesigned loader tower profile provides better visibility while operating. Ergonomically designed grab handles provide easier egress/ingress to the machines.
Ease of Service
The Case 400 Series 3 skid steers feature improved oil and fuel filter access, which helps avoid spills and speed up oil changes. A wide-fin side-by-side radiator and oil cooler improves cooling of the machines. A no-maintenance fan belt on the 420, 430, 435 and 445 Series 3 models is a plus, while an automatic belt tensioner on the 440, 450 and 465 maximizes uptime because the belt does not need to be adjusted. Battery-disconnect and remote-jumpstart terminals are standard on all models, with the exception of the 410 and 420.
All Case 400 Series 3 skid steer models are built to start in colder temperatures. A larger, 1125 CCA battery (32 percent more powerful than previous models) and glow plugs on the 410, or a grid heater on all other models, are standard.
The 410 Series 3 is tested to start unaided at 0 F (minus 17 C), while all other Case 400 Series 3 skid steer models are tested to start unaided at minus 10 F (minus 23 C). The massive, heavy-duty radiator and air cooler are sized for high-flow auxiliary hydraulics as well as operation in extreme temperatures with 10 fins per inch, four rows deep.
Single-location daily service checks remain a hallmark of the line, with sight gauges for checking hydraulic and coolant levels, a dipstick for checking engine oil levels and the air filter all located in the back of the machine. Easy-tilt ROPS provides access to major components for service.
Pilot Controls Available for All Models
Pilot controls are available on all eight Case skid steer models. Case pilot controls for all models are available from the factory in either “H” or ISO patterns.
Factory-supplied accessory kits also are available through Case dealers to permanently change the pattern from H to ISO or vice versa.
With the H pattern, which is familiar to experienced Case operators, the operator uses the left-hand control to operate the left drive motor as well as to raise and lower the loader arms. The right-hand controller is used to operate the right drive motor and the bucket curl and dump. The H pattern gives the operator independent control of the ground drives to position the machine with greater precision. This is especially helpful when performing tasks such as fine grading.
With the ISO pattern, the drive functions are in the left controller, and the loader arm/bucket functions are in the right controller. This allows for one-handed operation and is prevalent on non-Case machines.
Options for Increased Comfort, Convenience and Performance
A variety of options are available for all models, including deluxe instrument panel with keyless start, road lights with turn signals, and a radio with MP3 player. Optional air conditioning is now available on the Case 410 and 420 Series 3 units, as well as the larger models.
Another feature is a deluxe cloth heated seat with lumbar support, which is available on units with a deluxe cab for operators working in cold climates.
A single-point lift hook is available on the 410, 420, 430, and 440 Series 3 models to facilitate craning these models up or down into building sites.
Other options include proportional auxiliary controls, a detent switch that does not have to be held down for two-speed operation, a demolition door with mar guard, an interior rearview mirror and strobe lights. Optional removable cab windows and solid flex tires also are available.
