Caltrans and contractor Hat Creek Construction saw construction on the Chester Pavement Restoration Project begin in mid-August.

The $3 million project will restore pavement on State Route (SR) 36 in Plumas County, from the overflow drainage canal through Chester, to the causeway across Lake Almanor. Construction completion is expected in November 2012.

The project will consist of a “Cold in Place Recycle Process” which takes existing pavement and reuses it as part of the base material prior to paving. The recycling process saves cost that would typically occur from grinding the existing pavement and disposing of the material as waste. The new recycled material becomes the new base material for placing the new “Hot Mix Asphalt,” adding additional structural section to the roadway. This new structural section will last longer and require less maintenance in future years.

During construction, residents and travelers can expect slight delays. Businesses will remain open and will have accessibility during construction.
