Iowa Mold Tooling Co. Inc. (IMT), an Oshkosh Corporation company introduced new telescopic cranes featuring increased reach and capacity at ConExpo-Con/AGG 2011, March 22 to 26 in Las Vegas.
The new cranes — the 7500, 8600, 9500, 10000, 12000 and 14000 — have model numbers corresponding to their maximum capacity. They each offer up to 30 ft. (9 m) of reach and increased capacity over previous models. To support the cranes’ expanded capabilities, IMT has upgraded the structure and stability of its Dominator mechanics trucks.
“With one of the longest reaches in the industry and greater capacity, our innovative new cranes provide superior performance, versatility and reliability in a variety of applications,” said Steve Fairbanks, IMT president. “It’s only fitting that we are unveiling these products while marking 50 years of commitment to the industry and our customers.”
The new cranes feature a Penta Boom design. With a flat top that eliminates stress concentrations inherent with certain boom designs and a half hex that controls tracking at long reaches, the five-sided boom offers strength and durability.
Other new standard features of the telescopic cranes include:
• Ten degrees of negative boom angle, providing added versatility and allowing the crane to be reached more easily from ground level
• A fully proportional pistol grip radio remote control offering traditional fit and operation
• LED overload indicator lights on the remote control handle that alert the operator when the crane is approaching overload condition or is in overload
• A flip sheave boom tip for added lift height in tight quarters
• A planetary winch that allows for faster hoisting and lowering speeds and smoother overall operation
• A boom hook stow that allows the boom hook to be stowed more easily and faster
IMT enhanced its Dominator I, II and IV bodies — and designed the new Dominator III body — to support the increased reach and capacity of the new cranes, and to ensure that its mechanics truck-crane units would be stable, per American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) standards.
