INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A construction worker who spotted a nearby house fire ran to the scene and rescued an Indianapolis woman, her three children and the family’s dog from their burning home.

Construction worker Bill Spurr was nearby when he saw the fire about 11 a.m. Friday and then heard a woman screaming for help.

Spurr tells WRTV-TV (http://bit.ly/1xkRH5G ) the woman appeared at a window and began yelling for help, screaming "My babies! My babies!"

He said another man pulled up outside in a truck to help. Spurr then used a ladder to reach the trapped family and pull the woman, her three children and the family’s dog to safety.

Firefighters said they had not yet determined Friday evening what had sparked the fire.
