Johnson Machinery hosted the Cat D7E “Tour of the Century” event in Riverside, Calif., July 8. With its breakthrough electric drive system, the Cat D7E track-type tractor has been generating interest in the heavy equipment business. Now, this new midsize dozer is making appearances around the country to give tractor users a firsthand look.
“We’re excited to have the D7E at Johnson Machinery this month. Whether you’re looking to upgrade your existing equipment or just interested in what the future of heavy equipment looks like, this is the first chance to see the D7E in person. It’s an impressive machine, and the electric drive system gives it better performance and efficiency than anything else in its class today,” said Mike Pospischil, general sales manager of Johnson Machinery.
Dubbed the “Tour of the Century,” the event’s name celebrates the first all new track-type machine produced during the second century of Caterpillar tractor innovation. Caterpillar predecessors Benjamin Holt and Daniel Best were industry pioneers in the early 1900s. The Holt Manufacturing Company and the C. L. Best Tractor Co. merged in 1925 to form the Caterpillar Tractor Company.
The D7E is a far cry from the machines of the early 1900s. The D7E features an advanced diesel-electric hybrid drive system that transfers power to the ground. It works together with an updated differential steering system to give the D7E a combination of straight-ahead dozing power and nimble maneuverability, according to the manufacturer.
Johnson Machinery worked with Caterpillar product experts to explain how the electric drive system works and preview other new D7E features. Live machine demonstrations showed off the machine’s dozing power and its ability to work effectively in tight quarters.
