PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A Philadelphia man has been arrested in connection with a Center City fire that caused more than $1 million in damages.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives say 52-year-old Stephen Pettiway was arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with arson.

The fire happened Sept. 15 inside a restaurant construction site at 13th and Chancellor streets. The blaze spread to The Gramercy and The Chancellor apartment buildings and caused minor damage. The construction site was razed.

About 100 firefighters were able to contain the blaze, which investigators later determined was intentionally set. No residents or firefighters were injured.

Officials say Pettiway was caught on several surveillance images that were taken during the arson fire.

Pettiway is scheduled to appear in federal court on Thursday.

Online court records don’t list a defense attorney.
