Patrick A. Jacomet, executive director of the Ohio Aggregates & Industrial Minerals Association (OAIMA), has been named NSSGA’s 2014 State Aggregates Association Executive of the Year.

Each year, NSSGA recognizes the leader of a state’s aggregates association for exemplary service to the industry. The award acknowledges the significant contributions of a state association and its leadership at the national level. It is to be presented at NSSGA’s 2015 Annual Convention Closing General Session in Baltimore, Md., March 18.

NSSGA President and CEO Michael W. Johnson said, “Pat’s leadership is an example for the entire industry. Whether it is a federal issue or a matter of public education, he regularly goes above and beyond for the benefit of the entire industry. He isn’t concerned about who gets the credit for a success, just that the job gets done.”

Johnson highlighted Jacomet’s efforts to organize other state aggregates associations’ responses to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s onerous Waters of the U.S. rule proposal.

Under Jacomet’s leadership, OAIMA received the 2014 Minerals Education-Public Outreach Award from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for its outstanding efforts in raising awareness about the use of aggregates and minerals, and their important role in daily life. In partnership with the Miami County (Ohio) Park District, OAIMA created a program that provides book bags and educational rock box kits for school children as a reward for completing the “Family Quest Nature Program.” Every year, more than 2,500 children and their parents participate.

OAIMA’s board of directors President Tony L. Price, senior vice president, sales, National Lime & Stone Co., added, “NSSGA’s recognition of Pat for his many contributions to the aggregates industry is well-deserved. He should be commended for his tireless efforts in advocating on behalf of the industry.”

NSSGA is the leading voice and advocate for the aggregates industry. Its members — stone, sand and gravel producers and the equipment manufacturers and service providers who support them — produce the essential raw materials found in homes, buildings, roads, bridges and public works projects and represent more than 90 percent of the crushed stone and 70 percent of the sand and gravel mined annually in the United States. Production of aggregates in the United States in 2014 totaled 2.17 billion metric tons at a value of $20.3 billion. The aggregates industry employs approximately 100,000 highly-skilled men and women.
