Foremost Pipeline Construction Co. Inc. of Gaston, S.C., has been awarded the National Utility Contractors Association’s (NUCA) 2008 William H. Feather Safety Award. Named after the first chairman of NUCA’s safety committee, the award recognizes those contractors that exemplify Feather’s passionate commitment to a safe workplace. The winners are chosen on the basis of injury frequency data, a safety statement and company program information in five categories established according to total man hours worked.

The 43-year-old Foremost Pipeline Construction Co. won the award in the 300,001 to 500,000 man-hours category. The company, which has gone four years without a lost time accident and worked more than a million hours without a lost day from work, has a comprehensive safety program that includes new hire safety orientation, safety mentoring program, weekly safety “tailgate” meetings, monthly publication of in- house safety bulletin, extensive safety training and retraining, and a three-day annual employee team safety training program.

The presentation of the award took place on May 20 at the National Awards Breakfast held in conjunction with NUCA’s 2009 Washington Summit/Spring Board & Committee Meetings, May 18 to 20 at the Hotel Monaco in Alexandria, Va.
