State Prison’s 500-Kilowatt-Hour Solar Project Helps Local Child, Make-A-Wish

The new project comes as Gov. Peter Shumlin pushes for more state facilities to install solar power projects.

ST. ALBANS, Vt. (AP) A new solar farm is helping power the state’s correctional facility in St. Albans, and has helped fund the wish for a local Make-A-Wish child.

The new 500-kilowatt-hour project comes as Gov. Peter Shumlin pushes for more state facilities to install solar power projects. Like similar projects at state prisons in St. Johnsbury and Windsor, the project at the Northwest State Correctional Facility will help provide energy to the state prison.

Vermont-based AllEarth Renewables manufactured solar trackers oversaw design and construction for the project, and SolarSense served as the developer of the St. Albans project.

Through its “Watts for Wishes” charitable donation program, SolarSense is donating $6,500 to Make-A-Wish Vermont to fund a wish for a local child.
