Topcon Positioning Systems’ (TPS) P-32 asphalt paving control system features the GC-35 full-color, graphical display control box. The new system also includes Topcon’s Sonic Tracker, slope sensor and is fully compatible with its Smoothtrac sonic averaging system.
The P-32 system is designed to allow for control of both sides of the paver by one operator.
“The operator can view elevation and slope values of the screed from a single box, a time-saving feature made possible by refining existing, time-tested machine control technologies from Topcon and combining them with the new GC-35 control box,” said Tony Vanneman, TPS construction product marketing manager.
The GC-35 box has a 3.5 in., full-color LED display designed for use in bright or low light, making it easy to read during paving projects, day or night.
“With large graphics and text, an easy-to-navigate menu, a configurable display layout and an incredibly fast processor, the operator can quickly determine options and make selections to create smooth and accurate cross-slope transitions and improve overall paving control,” Vanneman said.
Water- and dustproof with an IP67 rating, the new GC-35 box is built to handle harsh conditions encountered in the field. In addition to its durability, it’s designed to stay up-to-date with firmware updates made quickly and easily through a USB connection. It also is backward compatible to Topcon System 5 paving control systems.
“All aspects of the P-32 design are meant to be long-lasting with improved performance for the operator such as the positioning of the cables — mounted on the side of the box instead of below the box to keep the cables out of the moving parts of the paver,” Vanneman said.
