Tyler Equipment Corporation hosted an open house on Oct. 23 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. to celebrate the openingof its new, larger branch in Berlin, Conn.

President Brooke Tyler III stated that the expansion of the 87-year-old family businessin this tough economy is symbolic.

“In these uncertain recessionary times, average reactionary change is unacceptable. The bold move to a new facility defines our commitment to embrace every opportunity to excel,” Tyler said.

More than 150 current and prospective customers attended the event, which included an equipment rodeo, raffle, entertainment by puppeteer Larry Noiva and lunch served by Bob and Carol’s Catering, Woodbury, Conn. A ribbon cutting took place with the Mayor and Chamber of Commerce in attendance. Tyler Equipment employees and vendors were on hand to welcome guests and answer questions about the new facility.

General Manager PJ Mason said, “We acquired a larger facility to better serve our customers. The business was continuing to grow and grow — the opportunity arose and we took it. We needed to expand our parts warehouse. In addition, we now have a large paved and concrete yard to house our equipment. We also wanted to be more centrally located in Connecticut to better serve our customers. We are now so much more accessible off the highway.”

“Tyler Equipment’s big focus is customer support,” added Brooke Tyler IV, vice president of customer support. “We strive to increase our performance and improve our service capabilities to our customers. We are doing anything we can do to reduce downtime for our customers and with a new, bigger and better facility we will be able to take care of their needs more proficiently, Tyler Equipment has been in a very good growth mode since 1922 and we’re continuing to maintain our advancement.”

The family-owned business also has a location in East Longmeadow, Mass. Four generations of the Tyler family have operated the company, which, in addition to Tyler III, Tyler IV and Mason, is currently in the care of Tom Tyler, vice president; Bill Tyler, vice president; Bruce Tuper, service manager and Peggy Stalker, parts manager.

Tyler Equipment is the dealer for Volvo Construction Equipment, Sennebogen North America, Allied Construction Products, Metso Minerals, Genesis attachments, Allu, Craig Mfg, Bandit Industries, Rogers trailers, Rawson Manufacturing, and Geith attachments in Connecticut and in four Massachusetts counties; Franklin, Hampshire, Hampden, and Berkshire.

The Berlin branch will soon be hiring personnel for its parts and service departments.
