Van Keppel recently hosted a Basic Principles of Paving School at its Springfield, Mo., facility.

Fifty-four attendees, five highway class paving customers, one commercial class paving customer, and three crews from counties attended the school.

During the first half of the day Van Keppel went over the basic principles of paving in detail along with paver general operation/maintenance.

The second half of the day the company went over screed set up and automation controls. Every level of experience was present within the attendees, from no paving experience to 30 plus years of experience and all took something away from the school. There was a lot of appreciation shown toward Van Keppel for hosting this training, according to the company.

Although the second day was cut short due to a snow storm, Brian Horner demonstrated a tach coat training to 24 attendees. The smaller group allowed for actual hands on distributor training, as well as more one-on-one time with the company.

For customers who purchase new equipment, these types of trainings are a huge benefit to the purchaser knowing the in and outs of their equipment, according to the company.

“I got a lot of positive feedback from the class that they actually did learn from this school. Even got an operator with 30 years of on the job experience to admit that he now understands more about his machine,” said Matt Pettit, Van Keppel asphalt specialist.

The training is not only crucial for customers to gain knowledge of the equipment they use on the job site, but also to demonstrate that Van Keppel is there for them as a sales, service, parts and rental team.
