Liebherr organized a special type of table tennis match on April 12th at the Bauma exhibition stand in Munich: The German and Austrian national teams battled it out in the pit of the Liebherr mining truck.
The German and Austrian men's national table tennis teams competed against each other again for the first time since the European Championship final in 2015.
The venue for the match is not only the world's largest trade fair for the construction machinery industry: In the pit of the enormous, 165-tonne Liebherr T 264 mining truck, the top players Timo Boll, Bastian Steger and Patrick Franziska from the German national team engaged in exciting rallies with Werner Schlager, one-time world champion in 2003, as well as the acting Team Europe champions Chen Weixing and Stefan Fegerl from Austria. The matched ended with a 3-2 victory for the German National team.
The "Match in the Mining Truck" was moderated by ZDF sports commentator Norbert König. The coach of the German national team, and former double world champion Jörg Roßkopf, as well as World Federation President Thomas Weikert and the National Federation Presidents Michael Geiger (DTTB) and Hans Friedinger (öTTV), were also involved.
The Liebherr Group has been promoting talent for decades - not only on the job, but also in table tennis. For over 20 years the Group has been actively involved in table tennis and is a strong partner of the German Bundesliga team TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen, as well as the German and Austrian national teams and the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
