Caterpillar, or simply “Cat” as millions of construction professionals around the world call the iconic equipment manufacturer, was formed through a merger of Holt Manufacturing Company and C.L. Best Tractor Company in 1925. Through the years, Caterpillar construction equipment has played a significant role in the history of the United States, particularly in aiding Allied military efforts in two world wars.

An Ongoing Tradition of Excellence

Today, Caterpillar manufacturers its distinctive yellow and black iron in 110 facilities around the world, with 51 of those plants based in the United States. Its headquarters is in Peoria, Illinois, where it has been since 1910, when — before the company name, Caterpillar, spawned — Benjamin Holt opened a facility and incorporated it as “Holt Caterpillar Company.” The Caterpillar construction equipment line now consists of more than 300 machines for all types of construction and industrial applications.
