Construction Equipment Guide

Grove Crane is now offering an additional 2,000-lbs. (907 kg) counterweight for the TMS540 and ATS540 truck cranes. This counterweight increase in these 40-ton (35 t) units from 6,000 to 8,000 lbs. (2,722 to 3,620 kg) provides up to a 20-percent increase in lifting capacity in various areas of the main boom load chart.

Both models can be equipped with either a 90-ft. (27 m) three-section or 115-ft. (35 m) four-section full-power main boom which is one of the longest booms offered on a three-axle truck crane. Featured is a standard 30-to 54-ft. (9.1 to 16.4 m) bi-fold swingaway with 45-degree offset capability, the only cranes in this class to offer this offset capability for up and over reach. Maximum unit tip height is 177 ft. (53.9 m).

These three-axle truck cranes were introduced in the spring of 1999 and have been in high demand. The ATS540 is unique in that it provides all-terrain crane features at a truck crane cost. The unit features all-wheel drive and all-wheel steer for job-site performance and exceptional maneuverability. Both models offer a long list of innovative features.

A high visibility superstructure cab is fully equipped with a consolidated instrument panel, sliding skylight, flameless hot water heater and a power outlet for cell phone or fax machine. Armrest mounted electronic over hydraulic single-axis crane controls are provided for easy operation and can be adjusted for feel to suit the operator’s preference. The LMI is operator friendly and the graphic display provides load information at a glance. The load moment and anti-two block systems utilize both audio/visual warnings and control lever lockout. Graphic display is provided for boom angle, length, radius, tip height, relative load moment, maximum permissible load and warning of impending two-block conditions.

The carrier cab includes features such as remote controlled and heated mirrors, power window in the carrier cab door, padded tilt and telescope steering wheel, air ride seat, hot water heater/defroster and ergonomically designed dash with full instrumentation.

Grove TMS540 and ATS540 cranes include attention to detail such as pre-painted components for complete paint coverage and paint-free hoses and harnesses. Careful routing of hoses and wires reduces wear points and a centralized electrical service center provides easy access to major electrical components.

Other features include hook block stowage and headache ball tiedown and stowage; a large locking aluminum sling box; and integral ladders at five locations for easy carrier access. Aluminum, diamond plate decking reduces weight and provides outstanding corrosion resistance.
