Known as the “Granite State,” New Hampshire offers contractors its own set of challenges. The hard rock found in excavation sites seems to dare contractors into a tug of war. Two of the state’s contractors have met the challenge with Chappell Tractor Sales, Hyundai’s 210LC-7 and 320LC-3 excavators on their side.

Donigian Properties, located in Fremont, NH, has been building homes for more than 40 years. Cutting in roads and digging foundations for subdivisions has given Jake Donigian, the owner, first-hand experience with large rocks. With the help of Chappell Tractor and a new Hyundai 210LC-7 excavator, site clearing is not quite the chore it once was.

Donigian purchased a new Hyundai 210LC-7 excavator from Chappell Tractor Sales Inc., located in Milford, NH, for his site clearing work. The excavator is a 48,460-lb. (21,981 kg) unit with 143 hp (107 kW) and a digging depth of 22 ft. (6.7 m). It also features an improved computer-aided power optimization (CAPO) management system that gives Donigian increased productivity through improved control and flexibility. A self-diagnostic display system, that provides technical information for 48 distinct functions, is another feature of the Hyundai 210LC-7.

“The Hyundai excavator with a thumb attachment makes moving large rocks a lot easier,” said Donigian. “Since getting the excavator, it has become the workhorse for me.” Other equipment owned by the company includes a Cat E110 excavator, a Cat 950 loader, and a Dresser dozer.

For the past two years, Donigian has been working on an 18-lot subdivision in Chester, NH. This project is expected to be completed within the next two months. In addition, for the past three years, Donigian has been working on a 16-lot subdivision in Salem, which will be completed in another year.

Soon, Donigian will be putting the Hyundai excavator through it paces on projects in Barnstead and Fremont, NH, with confidence in his equipment and Chappell Tractor. “I have received good service and support from Chappell Tractor. They have kept any downtime to a minimum,” said Donigian.

In addition to Donigian Properties, Slate Construction Corp. Inc., located in Candia, NH, recently purchased a Hyundai excavator from Chappell Tractor. Slate Construction performs site, road and pipeline utility work throughout the state of New Hampshire and Hyundai equipment from Chappell Tractor has been at the helm of the company’s earthwork operations.

The purchase of a Hyundai 320LC-3 excavator, which has a Cummins C8.3-C engine with 230 hp (172 kW), provides the power Slate needs for the type of work the company has been doing for 20 years. Although the various features of the unit were important to Wayne Theodore, owner of Slate, he said that price and service also were factors in selecting Chappell Tractor and Hyundai. Slate also has other Hyundai units in its equipment fleet that includes a 180 excavator and a loader.

“The Hyundai 320LC-3 excavator was economical and I have always received excellent service from Chappell Tractor, before and after the sale,” said Theodore.

In 1955, Perley Chappell founded Chappell Tractor Sales in his barn where he sold Ford tractors to the local agricultural community. In the 47 years since then, the company’s offerings have expanded to include heavy-construction equipment and a sales staff with hands-on experience. Chappell Tractor has locations in Milford at 454 Route 13 and in Brentwood at 251 Route 125.
