While the Irvine Company, the developer behind this project, hasn't said much about the changes in store, many shops are in the process of opening, closing and relocating to elsewhere in the mall.

Construction is under way at the Irvine Spectrum Center in Irvine Calif., beginning with the demolition of the 140,000-sq.-ft. Macy's. That area will be transformed into a space for up to 20 new stores, the OC Register reported.

While the Irvine Company, the developer behind this project, hasn't said much about the changes in store, many shops are in the process of opening, closing and relocating to elsewhere in the mall:

• Windsor, a special occasion clothing store for teenagers, is moving to another location, farther away from the construction around Macy's, although the Irvine Company said the move is “due to renewal and merchandising strategy regarding location and size,” and not because of the expansion project.

• Happy Nails and Corner Bakery cited construction as the reason for their move, however. Both were previously located in the construction zone.

• PacSun is currently remodeling its store, which is predicted to be finished in September.

• One of the larger projects is the expansion of the “Curbside to go” program, which will now include a total of six pickup locations around the mall, including two new ones by the Nordstrom and movie theater parking areas. Through the program, shoppers can pick up meals at any of these locations ordered from 21 restaurants, the OC Register reported.

Renovation of the space that formerly housed Macy's should be complete sometime in 2018.
