Construction Equipment Guide

Komatsu America’s 960E-2K AC electric drive haul truck is the largest of Komatsu’s full line of mining trucks. The model carries a 360 ton (327 t) payload and weighs 1.27 million lbs. (576,062 kg) when fully loaded. The 960E-2K balances payload, productivity and power and is designed to be the right match for today’s mining needs. More than 24 ft. (7.3 m) tall, the 960E uses modern frame design and manufacturing technology to ensure quality.

The 960E-2K is powered by the Komatsu SSDA18V170 which uses a dual-stage turbo air handling system to deliver 3,500 hp (2,609 kW) with the lowest brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) at rated horsepower for this truck class.

Today’s operators require a comfortable cab and the 960E-2K delivers, with added sound attenuation, dual air-suspension seats and room for the operator’s coat and lunch. The updated dashboard includes simplified gauges and a display that combines payload and speed and provides the operator the information needed to operate the truck. The ergonomic layout and comfortable controls help to enhance the driving experience of the operator and eliminate distractions.

The 960E-2K is equipped with KOMTRAX Plus (former VHMS) technology, which sends machine operating information to a secure Web site utilizing wireless technology. Without any additional IT expense, data such as operating hours, component trends, machine utilization (including idle time and fuel consumption) and production information are relayed to the web application and made available on-line for analysis. In real time, the KOMTRAX Plus fleet monitoring system monitors machine availability, allows for remote diagnosis of machine issues, and provides a wealth of other information to drive business efficiency.
