Construction Equipment Guide

Komatsu America’s WA900-3 wheel loader draws on the Komatsu legacy of quality engineering to offer high production and operator comfort. The 17 cu. yd. (13 cu m) loader, powered by Komatsu’s 12 cylinder 856 hp (638 kW) engine, is an excellent match for loading 100-ton (91 t) trucks. With a choice of booms and bucket sizes, the loader specifications can be tailored to suit myriad mining applications, according to the manufacturer.

Customizable

The choice of boom and buckets sizes for the WA900-3 allows the loader to meet the needs of many mines. When fitted with the standard boom and the 17 cu. yd. bucket, the WA900-3 is a perfect match for 4-pass loading 100-ton trucks. The high lift version allows the 15 cu. yd. (11.5 cu m) bucket to easily clear the sides of a 150-ton truck (136 t).

Optional buckets also make the WA900-3 the choice for loading rail cars, feeding hoppers or stockpile management. A standard remote boom positioner allows the operator to set the minimum and maximum heights of the boom travel to match trucks, hoppers and ground conditions, smoothly stopping the boom travel.

Power Train to Maximize Productivity

The WA900-3 features all Komatsu-designed and built drive components. Its Komatsu SAA12V140E-3 engine meets EPA Tier II emissions regulations and the three-speed power-shift transmission is fingertip-operated and electronically controlled. It offers speeds of more than 17 mph (27 kmh) in both forward and reverse. The dual-mode power select with variable transmission cut-off maximizes productivity, reduces fuel consumption and helps to increase tire and component life. The heavy-duty axles with planetary reduction reduce driveline stress, increase wheel torque and simplify maintenance. Independent, internal front and rear hydraulic wet disc brakes ensure operation in harsh environments and help minimize maintenance.

Ease of Maintenance

An automatic greasing system and large access doors make it easier to maintain the WA900-3. Engine oil and coolant drains on the exterior of the machine reduce service time and risk of spills. Selecting the newly released, optional front cab walkway with railings will make it easier for personnel to clean the windshield.

Cab Offers Comfort and Dual-Side Entry

To enhance operator comfort, the large cab of the WA900-3 features a high back air suspension multi-adjustable seat with ergonomically located control levers. The advanced joystick steering system (AJSS), large electronic display panel and easy-to-reach controls improve operator comfort. Large windshield and windows increase the operator’s vision of the loader bucket and work area. Two pillar ROPS / FOPS level 2 protection surrounds the operator’s cab and viscous mounts reduce cab vibration and noise.

The Technology Advantage

The WA900-3 is equipped with KOMTRAX Plus (former VHMS) technology, which sends machine operating information to a secure Web site utilizing wireless technology. Without any additional IT expense, data such as operating hours, component trends, machine utilization (including idle time and fuel consumption) and production information are relayed to the web application and made available on-line for analysis. In real time, the KOMTRAX Plus fleet monitoring system monitors machine availability, allows for remote diagnosis of machine issues, and provides a wealth of other information to drive business efficiency.
