Owner Larry Petrosino relies on Liebherr construction equipment to get the job done.

Situated on the corner of Bay Street and Cropsey Avenue, right in front of the Home Depot, sits a Brooklyn institution. Established in 1957, Cropsey Scrap Iron & Metal Corporation prides itself on being a family-owned-and-operated facility that is focused on customer experience. Managing a scrap yard is no easy feat. It takes a village of workers to ensure that everything has a place, is being moved, separated, pressed, and organized into bales for removal. To do that, workers rely on their scrap handling equipment to get the job done. More specifically, owner Larry Petrosino relies on Liebherr construction equipment.

“We have about seven Liebherr machines total between our two locations. When we were ready for a new machine for the general running of our scrap yard, we looked into getting [another brand] but ultimately decided to stick to what we knew and what was best, a Liebherr.”

Petrosino added that the decision was made based on the fact that not only were they already familiar with the manufacturer, but Liebherr has good customer support for parts availability and so on. Now he just needed to find a dealer, but he already had one in mind.

“In this area, if you're looking for a Liebherr machine, you're going to buy from Hoffman. Matt Jensen was very good putting the deal together for us.”

After researching options and consulting with Jensen, Cropsey chose the Liebherr LH 60 C. The LH 60 C achieves 65 ft. 7 in. reach and is powered by a Tier IV Fi; 244 hp Liebherr D936 engine. With the Liebherr ERC cylinder, the machine provides industry leading productivity and fuel efficiency, according to the company.

Hoffman's dedicated team delivered the monster of a machine (it weighs between 120,000 and 130,000 lbs.) in the confined space of Cropsey's yard and assembled it with minimal impact to its operation.

“Hoffman has a good response time that we're not always used to in this business,” Petrosino said.
