Michigan Aggregates Association Holds Conference, Trade Show

The 2024 Michigan Aggregates Association (MAA) Annual Conference and Trade Show was held at Fire Keepers Casino in Battle Creek, Mich., Feb. 14 and 15. The event kicked off with a series of educational sessions covering subjects ranging from safety issues, equipment maintenance and aggregate production to new technologies, environmental issues and community engagement in a digital world.

Just of few of the MAA conference presentations included:

  • MDOT Update — Jason Cutting, director of Bureau of Field Services
  • Impairment Detection + Workplace Safety — Ken Fichtler, Gaize CEO
  • Proper Bearing Lubrication — Dean Burcroff of Bearing Service
  • Intro to AASHTOWARE — Dan Burns of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT)
  • Stockpile Management Best Practices for Loader Operators — Keith Childress of Great Lakes Aggregates and Nathan Gates of Verplank

During the Welcome Reception, attendees had opportunities to meet with representatives of Michigan's leading equipment, product and service providers to discuss the latest innovations in equipment and products in a tabletop exhibit area for the trade show portion of the event.

"[Due] to industry partners like yours we had our most successful conference ever with nearly 400 in attendance over the length of the event," said Doug Needham, Michigan Aggregates Association executive director. "Our industry is more important than ever to the growth of our state and country as we rebuild and advance our transportation systems and see expansion in private construction and the clean energy field. It was exciting to see the cutting edge of construction science displayed by vendors and presenters alike."

Founded in 1960, the MAA is a non-profit trade organization dedicated to protecting and promoting the interests, growth and welfare of Michigan's aggregates industry.

MAA membership is comprised of individuals and organizations involved with the production of crushed stone, sand and gravel, industrial and recycled materials along with suppliers of equipment and other goods and services needed to produce mineral products.

Serving its membership through educational programs, business meetings and newsletters, the association works to keep members up to date on regulatory and compliance issues along with other matters relating to Michigan's aggregates industry. The association also serves in an advisory capacity to work with public officials regarding regulations related to health and safety, land use, taxation, material specifications, land reclamation and the environment.

The MAA is a non-profit trade organization to support the interests, growth and welfare of Michigan's aggregates industry. Members are served through educational programs, business meetings and newsletters to keep informed about regulatory and compliance issues and other matters regarding Michigan's aggregates industry.
