On June 1, Modern Equipment & Supply established a rental fleet of Hyundai wheel loaders and excavators to serve its customers throughout Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

As a full-line Hyundai dealer, Modern will be able to provide tracked excavators ranging from 3,000 to 100,000-lb. (1,361 to 45,359 kg) capacities and wheel loaders up to 65,000-lb. capacities from its Edison, N.J., and Bristol, Pa., locations.

All Hyundai units come with a wide range of standard features, including weight sensors, backup cameras, terrain safety systems, digital vehicle diagnostics and tracking, plus full cab AC/Heat and bluetooth entertainment system. Modern is building the fleet to handle projects large and small with flexible rent periods and rent-to-own options.

In just a short period of time, customers have responded favorably to Modern's Hyundai rental fleet, Nelson reported, with more than a dozen items already currently working on job sites across the region.

Modern Sales Representative Ron Dortone Sr. will be responsible for managing and growing this new business, with the assistance of Hyundai Construction product manager Sam Maury and Territory Representative Chris DeRonde, who will handle Northern New Jersey.

Nelson said that as a result of the sustained success Modern has had with the Hyundai heavy construction line since it picked up the line in 2016 (as well as the success he anticipates the company will have with this new rental fleet), the dealer will sharpen its focus to recruit additional technicians throughout its service territory.

One aspect of this recruitment program will be to spotlight the hiring of recently returning veterans. Dave Devanzo, the manager of the company's forklift service operations in Bristol, Pa., for example, was a Navy vet of nearly 30 years and joined modern five years ago. He was the subject of a CNN Memorial Day segment in 2012. Modern also will offer a signing bonus of $2,000 to any qualified technician who joins the company. Nelson added that Modern also is very involved with the AED on local and national level with all of the association's efforts to foster and recruit talent.

Modern Equipment also has been recently ramping up its service prowess with the addition of General Service Manager Joe Petsch, who came to the company with more than 30 years of industry experience. Petsch manages all of Modern's construction equipment service operation and will be instrumental in growing the division's capabilities.
