PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) Rhode Island officials placed a construction sign at the future site of a new Pawtucket-Central Falls commuter rail station.

State and city leaders unveiled the new sign at the intersection of Pine Street and Goff Avenue, near where the train station is scheduled to open in 2020.

The station will be a new stop on the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority's Providence Line, which connects Rhode Island to Boston.

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation was awarded a $13.1 million federal grant to help build the station.

It will become Rhode Island's first stop for MBTA trains heading south to Providence from Attleboro, Mass. The location is a former industrial area of Pawtucket just south of the border with Central Falls.

Passenger train service to the historic and now abandoned Pawtucket-Central Falls station on Railroad Street ended in 1981.
