WILLIAMSPORT, Md. (AP) Construction crews are getting ready to install a new intake system to help restore the Conococheague (kah-nah-kah-CHEEG') Aqueduct in the Chesapeake and Ohio National Historical Park at Williamsport.

Workers were in place to install the system, which will allow for the aqueduct to be filled with water, making it possible for visitors to ride through on a boat.

The water-intake system is the first phase of an $11 million project at the historical park, which includes the full restoration of the canal's aqueduct that last carried boats across the creek in the 1920s.

Park Superintendent Kevin Brandt said the project is the centerpiece of a plan to create a “premier historical attraction” near the canal's midpoint.
