The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) will redirect traffic for approximately 1 mi. (1.6 km) on Veterans Memorial Highway (U.S. 95) in Boulder City, Nev.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction and the speed limit will be reduced from 65 mph to 55 mph to accommodate construction of the bridge over U.S. 95 for the future Interstate 11 corridor.

Travelers may experience slight delays en route to Laughlin, Nev. until March 2017.

Interstate 11 will connect Las Vegas and Phoenix, the only two cities in the nation with populations of more than one million not linked by an interstate. The 15-mi. (24 km) RTC and Nevada Department of Transportation project is expected to be complete in fall 2018.

Construction of I-11 supports Southern Nevada Strong's objective of establishing a safe and efficient road network with improved regional connectivity and reduced traffic congestion.

This project is paid for, in part, by fuel revenue indexing. Fuel revenue is generated each time motorists fill their vehicles with gas. A portion of what they pay at the pump helps fund transportation projects throughout Clark County.

The Clark County Commission approved fuel revenue to be tied to the rate of inflation from January 2014 to December 2016. This funding measure will help keep up with material and labor costs, raise $700 million, fund 220 projects and create 9,000 jobs. For motorists, this averages out to about a dime a day.
