The C766D and C778D tandem drum rollers from HYPAC feature a redesigned operator’s cockpit that provides added comfort and control, resulting in improved efficiency and productivity.
With a sliding/swivel seat, the rollers’ cockpit allows the operator to quickly adjust positions without switching seats while providing a clear view of the roller drum edges. The comfortable seat reduces operator fatigue, with ergonomic, intuitive joystick controls that reverse automatically when the seat position is reversed, providing natural right/left, forward/back control. An easy-to-read instrument cluster provides responsive feedback of machine vitals and mat conditions.
The new C766D and C778D also have advanced features that make them more economical and environmentally friendly. The rollers are equipped with 130-hp (97 kW) Cummins QSB4.5 Tier III diesel engines featuring an ECO-Mode system that automatically matches engine speed to roller operation, idling the engine during pauses and breaks. This can reduce fuel costs by as much as 20 percent while lowering job site noise, according to the manufacturer.
The C766D has a 66-in. (167 cm) drum width and a maximum centrifugal force of 32,800 lbs. (14,878 kg) while the C778D has a drum width of 78 in. (198 cm) and a maximum centrifugal force of 37,100 lbs. (16,828 kg).
An increase in maximum frequency from 3,800 to 4,000 vibrations per minute (vpm) allows the new rollers to work quickly to achieve density on Superpave mixes.
