Construction Equipment Guide

Case Construction Equipment’s PT240 pneumatic tire compactor is an eight-wheeled machine designed for rolling hot mix asphalt surface treatments like chip and seal, as well as soil stabilization applications.

As the first pneumatic tire compactor offered by Case, the PT240 represents a major expansion of the Case compaction product line. Separately, Case introduced three new double-drum vibratory compactor models, designed for production asphalt paving projects.

“The Case PT240 meets a variety of job requirements in surface compaction,” said Woody Ferrell, Case global product marketing manager. “With a pneumatic tire unit, plus our full line of vibratory models, Case now offers a significantly expanded line of compactors.”

With a turbocharged engine rated at 99 hp (74 kW), the Case PT240 pneumatic tire compactor has power for operating on grades up to 25 degrees and on materials with higher rolling resistance. The compactor features standard hydrostatic steering, independent axles and a four-plus-four tire configuration with two-inch tire overlap. The machine also offers automotive style controls with left- and right-side operating positions for optimal operator sight lines and control.

The Case PT240 has a compaction width of 78 in. (198 cm), suitable for production asphalt paving projects. A standard air-on-the-run central tire inflation system ensures proper tire inflation at all times and optimizes rolling performance to job requirements.

Floating and oscillating front axles are designed for compaction of uneven surfaces. The ability to adjust ballasted operating weight enables the PT240 compactor to adapt to varying soil and asphalt requirements. The fully ballasted operating weight is 52,910 lb. (24,000 kg) and the un-ballasted operating weight is 20,525 lb. (9,310 kg). Un-ballasted ground clearance is 13.4 in (34 cm). Ground clearance is 10.2 in. (26 cm) with ballast boxes under the machine. The maximum operating weight is 52,910 lb.

The PT240 compactor includes high-capacity water and fuel tanks to stay on the job for long work days. The corrosion-proof, pressurized water system features a 122-gal. (460 L) polyethylene water tank. A 66-gal. (250-L) fuel tank is standard.

Operator Convenience and Control

The Case PT240 was designed for operator comfort and convenience. In addition to dual work stations, the PT240 offers standard suspension seats with foldable arm rests, and an optional heated and air-conditioned cab for all-weather use.

Multi-function equipment displays include engine RPM, engine hours, fuel rate, system voltage and engine load at current RPM. Standard travel controls include three-speed powershift drive with maximum speed of 12 mph (19.3 kmh).

The Case PT240 pneumatic tire compactor features easy maintenance with all drive train components accessible at ground level for quick daily service checks.
