In 2002, Link-Belt introduced the world to hydrostatic drive on a six-wheel carrier frame with the RTC-80100 Series II. Link-Belt is adding reach and capacity to its rough terrain crane line 12 years later, with the new 150 ton (135 t) RTC-80150 Series II. Powered by a 345-hp (257 kW) Cummins Tier IVf diesel engine, the RTC-80150 Series II will debut for the first time at ConExpo 2014 March 4 to 8, in Las Vegas, Nev.

“We’re confident that the market will tell us if long boom is going to catch on. We’re happy to be bringing something to the market right now; it’s a good time to be in the larger RT business,” said Brian Smoot, rough terrain product manager of Link-Belt.

Visitors to ConExpo will be impressed by the 22 ft. (6.7 m), tight turning radius of the RTC-80150 Series II, according to the company. A switch in the cab controls four steering modes: independent front, independent rear, combination and diagonal. In addition to a tight turning radius, variable speed pumps supply hydraulic power to all six drive motors for outstanding creep control.

Transport

Like all six-wheel rough terrain cranes built by Link-Belt, the RTC-80150 Series II will transport with two overflow loads and assemble in less than an hour without assistance from a helper crane. The RTC-80150 Series II travels at a lower overall clearance of 12.5 ft. (3.81 m) with six lower profile tires that do not come off for transport. The RTC-80150 Series II can be equipped to transport at less than 100,000 lbs. (45,359.2 kg) and loaded onto a conventional lowboy trailer while maintaining a 9 ft. (2.7 m) 10 in. (25.4 cm) width.

Boom

The RTC-80150 Series II comes with a 42.3 to 195.3 ft. (12.9 to 59.5 m) six-section, full-power latching boom with enhanced load capability and five boom extend modes that are simple but effective. To make maintenance easier, the design incorporates Link-Belt’s standard Teflon wear pucks impregnated in the wear pad surfaces so the boom requires no grease.

Fly Options

On board fly options include both two and three piece lattice bi-folds, 10, 31, 55 ft. (3, 9.4, 16.7 m) long — for a tip height of 258 ft. (78.6 m). The fly manually offsets to 2, 15, 30, and 45 degrees and can be hydraulically offset to 2 to 45 degrees. An available 10 ft. (3 m) heavy-lift fly — integral to one of the fly options — swings and pins into place and has more than 25 tons (22.6 t) of capacity for one-load two-line lift procedures. With three 18 ft. (5.5 m) lattice extensions, the maximum tip height of the RTC-80150 Series II is 311 ft. (94.8 m). Fly attachments on the RTC-80150 Series II are interchangeable with Link-Belt’s existing RTC-80110 Series II, RTC-80130 Series II and HTC-3140 models.

Cab

For high-angle lifts, the RTC-80150 Series II operator’s cab can tilt up to 20 degrees. A swing-up roof window with windshield wiper and washer, engine-dependent warm water cab heating, a sun screen, and a five-way-adjustable seat with headrest ensure a comfortable work environment.

The operator’s cab features a large viewing window that minimizes blind spots and has well placed controls and readouts, including Link-Belt’s Pulse. Link-Belt Pulse is a Link-Belt designed, total crane operating system that utilizes an in-cab display as a readout and operator interface with on-board diagnostics including the rated capacity limiter, wind speed, boom length and angle, radius of load and crane configuration just to name a few.

A new camera package enhances on-board site monitoring and includes cameras located on the right side of the upper frame as well as one for the main winch and one for the auxiliary winch. Visitors to ConExpo will be introduced to aluminum decking on the RTC-80150 Series II. In addition to the new aluminum decking, the RTC-80150 Series II has six points of access to the flat carrier deck. The front and rear lower ladders are removable to avoid damage during transport. Once on deck, routine checks on powertrain components and fluid levels are a snap with large swing-out doors that reveal the entire engine compartments and access ladders and folding upper guardrails provide reinforced safety boundaries.

Features of the RTC-80150 Series II:

• Confined Area Lifting Capacity or CALC feature allows for three different outrigger positions (fully extended, intermediate and fully retracted).

• Hydraulic disc brakes for both service brakes and parking brake

• Single or dual axis joystick controls for smooth, precise control

• Weatherproof electrical connectors and relays throughout for outstanding long-term reliability

• Color coded and numbered wiring is protected by a flame retardant polyethylene insulation

• Full lighting package includes cab lights, headlights, turn indication, marker, backup and stop

• No deducts in capacity when telescoping loads

• Powder-coated tubing is utilized throughout the crane

• Hand-held outrigger controls

• Pre-painted components and plated hardware

• O-ring face sealed hydraulic components with staggered fittings

• Well organized electrical and hydraulic routings throughout

• Supported 24/7 by Link-Belt preferred including online manuals, literature, a ground bearing calculator, and 3D Lift Plan
