On April 16, H.O. Penn Machinery Company hosted a technology and new product showcase at its Bloomingburg, N.Y., facility.

The purpose of the event was to show customers the latest advances in machine control and guidance and how they can apply technology solutions to their job sites. In addition, the latest building construction products (BCP) offered by Caterpillar were on display.

To assist in providing customers information on their technology offerings, SITECH Metro Northeast, the authorized Trimble dealer, was brought in as a partner for the event. All told there were more than a dozen experts on hand to answer the multitude of questions customers had on this fast changing field.

The event was broken up into morning and afternoon sessions. Both sessions began with a classroom style review of the offerings by Marty Callahan, technology manager; Jeremy Shaw, BCP manager; and John Lewis, regional sales representative of SITECH. The customers were then encouraged to go out and see for themselves what these products can do for them by getting in the seat of the dozen machines set up for them to try out. While many people believe grading technology is only for larger machines, a Cat compact track loader equipped with a box blade also was available for demonstration, showing customers they can leverage this technology for any size job site.

In addition to utilizing the SITECH grading technology, H.O. Penn displayed the new Stable Blade Control for the Cat D5 dozer. This technology allows operators to shorten learning time, in return, increasing profits, according to the companies.

Along with that technology, contractors used Cat D Series skid steers and compact track loaders that have optional factory-installed rearview cameras. Customers have found these features helpful getting around tight job sites and overall safety for operator and crew.

During the day-long event, more than 100 customers visited the facility and 125 machine demonstrations were conducted. According to Charlie Johnson vice president of machine sales, “in order to conduct this number of demonstrations in the field, it would have taken several months to complete making this event a huge success.”

A big part of the technology showcase was introducing contractors to Cat EMSolutions, which falls under the Cat Connect umbrella. Within EMSolution is Trimble remote monitoring, which is a cousin to AccuGrade and SITECH.

In addition, product support, generators, pavers, Metso crushers and screens, along with Cat on-highway trucks were represented with several stations set up to showcase H.O. Penn’s latest offerings.
