A long-time excavation company knows a thing or two about rock removal.
As the third generation owner of Allgeier Excavating, Carl Marrillia has had a lot of experience with rock standing in the way of excavation projects in Louisville and the surrounding areas. The company provides residential and small commercial excavating, from basements to finish grading in Jefferson, Bullitt, Oldham counties, as well as contract work for a nephew in Lexington, Ky. The company has 14 employees and three machines equipped with hammers.
Marrillia understands the need for the right equipment and his company has a long history of seeking out the latest and best machines for the jobs it takes on. He explained that when his grandfather started the company in 1935, he used mules and slip scrapers to dig foundations. Later, he purchased the first motorized tractor in Louisville.

"It doesn’t matter if it’s raining, snowing or sunshine," said Carl Marrillia. "When our customers contract us to dig a foundation, they don’t accept excuses for not making deadlines."
In the area where Allgeier conducts most of its work, the company encounters limestone on nearly every job. In Louisville, the rock gets harder closer to the river, so the need for strong, efficient hammers is critical. So when Marrillia decided it was time for a new hammer, he spoke with Glen Gish of Bale Equipment Solutions.
Marrillia said he "cut his teeth" on Case skid steers and has been working with Gish since the days when he represented Case for Louisville’s previous Case dealership. Marrillia’s long-standing relationship with Gish has made the latter his go-to person for Case machines — but Marillia wasn’t sure about going to Bale Equipment Solutions for his hammer needs.
Any concerns he might have had were gone quickly after meeting with Gorilla Hydraulic Breaker President Robert Tedesco. Marrillia was impressed that Tedesco took time to meet with him and learn about his needs.
"Robert [Tedesco’s] passion for his products was matched with a comprehensive knowledge of his and competitors’ hydraulic hammers," said Marrillia.
After seeing the Gorilla hammers in action and hearing Tedesco’s assurances regarding replacement parts availability, Marrillia decided to give the hammer a try. "He’s [Tedesco] the kind of professional that would be there to minimize downtime if there was a problem," Marrillia said.
Allgeier’s Gorilla hammer has been an MVP for the company since joining the equipment fleet. Since purchasing the hammer in December 2013, Marrillia has been working it two to three days a week and the hammer delivers excellent impact and has operated without issues, he said, adding that Gorilla Hammers and Bale Equipment Solutions have provided an outstanding combination of equipment and personal service.
Founded in 2004, Bale Equipment Solutions is a family-owned full-line construction equipment dealer providing equipment sales, rentals and service with locations in Elizabethtown and Louisville, where the company recently relocated to a new state-of-the-art facility. In addition to being the authorized dealer for Gorilla Hydraulic Hammers dealer, the company also carries Case and JLG equipment.
