Wacker Neuson has introduced a 1-ton (.9 t) excavator that can run off diesel or electric power. The 803 dual power mini-excavator runs off a standard diesel engine or can easily be connected to an electro-hydraulic pump — allowing the machine to operate emission-free. This solution is perfect for interior excavating and demolition, and is unique in that the operator can choose between diesel and electric power on the same machine depending on the application, according to the manufacturer.

The 803 dual power mini-excavator is small in size, but big in performance and versatility.

The new 803 dual power features a dedicated connection in the undercarriage where the electro-hydraulic pump, HPU8, attaches to the excavator. For convenience, long 39 ft. (12 m) hoses connect the HPU8 and the 803 undercarriage, allowing the mini-excavator to still rotate 360-degrees. Accessibility on the job is easy since it is narrow enough to fit through standard interior doors.

The HPU8 electro-hydraulic pump was specifically developed by Wacker Neuson, ensuring that no matter which power source is used, the 803 delivers the same powerful, consistent performance. In the conventional operation, the 803 is powered by a 13-hp diesel engine, which provides the small excavator enough power for breaking applications. When connected to the HPU8 electo-hydraulic pump, the 803 runs emissions-free with the same best in class performance.

Wacker Neuson’s new 803 dual power mini-excavator features a telescopic undercarriage that can extend from 27.5 to 34-in. (70 to 86 cm) for greater stability and lifting power. The dimensions of the HPU8 were optimized for the 803, and it can be lifted and transported on the excavator’s dozer blade for easy transport, or can be moved via the jobsite-ready wheels or lift hook.
