New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Joan McDonald announced that a $1.68 million project to resurface a 4-mi. (6.4 km) stretch of Route 146 in the western part of the town of Clifton Park will begin later this year. Funding for this project was accelerated into this construction season by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo in order to repair widespread damage from the harsh winter weather.

“Under the guidance of Gov. Cuomo, the New York State Department of Transportation is repairing roads throughout the Empire State to improve pavement conditions and protect the taxpayers’ investment in highways that worsened over the winter season,” McDonald said. “The work later this year will vastly improve conditions for all travelers on Route 146, which is a vital route that connects homes and neighboring towns, brings people to school and to work, and contributes to tourism and business efforts in this beautiful part of southern Saratoga County.”

Clifton Park Town Supervisor Phil Barrett said, “I would like to thank Commissioner McDonald and her staff for their attention to the problematic road conditions on this section of Route 146. Clifton Park residents and motorists throughout the Capital Region that use Route 146 will be pleased with the improvements.”

Work on Route 146 will include removing the old, worn layer of pavement and replacing it with new blacktop from just north of the intersection with Riverview Road in Rexford to just east of the intersection of Route 146A. Short segments of Glenridge Road and Blue Barns Road also will be paved near where they intersect with Route 146. The ramps between Route 146 and Route 146A will also be repaved.

Work is expected to begin in the late summer and conclude in late October. Because of traffic volumes, much of the work is anticipated to occur at night.

An average of more than 17,000 motor vehicles use Route 146 daily between Glenridge Road and Route 146A. An average of more than 11,500 motor vehicles use Route 146 daily between Glenridge Road and Riverview Road in Rexford.
