Close to 1,000 bidders participated online and in person at Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers’ multi-million dollar unreserved public equipment auction in Darlington, S.C., on March 31. Equipment for the sale was provided by R.E. Goodson Construction in an effort to sell its older pieces. R.E. Goodson Construction began in 1946, when R.E. “Bob” Goodson bought his first bulldozer from the U.S. Army to build log roads and work with his logging crew. The Cat D-7 dozer came by train in a wooden crate and was painted green. From this humble beginning, R.E. Goodson Construction has grown to 150 pieces of heavy equipment and 100 employees. Today, the company builds interstate highways in South Carolina and North Carolina, and is a privately-held, family-owned business.

Bidders attending the sale came from 30-plus countries, including 49 U.S. states. Approximately 88 percent of the equipment was sold to out-of-state buyers, from as far away as the United Kingdom, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates. Online bidders purchased approximately 49 percent of the equipment sold (by dollar value).

More than 550 equipment items and trucks were sold in the auction.
