Allu to Present on Soil Stabilization at ConExpo-Con/AGG 2014
Allu Group Inc. will present a special ConExpo-Con/AGG 2014 educational session on LEED CREDIT: Stabilization of Marginal or Contaminated Soil for On-Site Reuse from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on March 5. Charles Wilk, Allu's manager of stabilization and remediation applications and well-known solidification/stabilization (S/S) industry expert, will be presenting on the topic. The session is open to contractors, engineers and anyone else in the industry with interest in soil stabilization best practices.

• Basic principles of mass stabilization including binding agents and mixing equipment.
• How application of the technology in property development and reuse of material can result in time, material and cost savings.
• How application of the technology can address contaminated properties and materials, facilitate reuse and LEED credit.
Mass stabilization involves the mixing of binding agents into soil or sediment to improve the treated materials' properties for use in land development. Improvements may include physical properties such as an increase of bearing strength or environmental properties such as immobilizing contaminants within the treated material. Examples of stabilization include (a) in situ (in-place) treatment of soil at contaminated properties alleviating the need to dig, haul and dispose, (b) treatment of dredged sediment creating “engineered” fill for reuse in the development of upland properties, and (c) in situ treatment of “peaty” or other soft soils for use as pavement base.
Charles Wilk is an expert in the use of in situ soil mixing and mass stabilization for the purpose of improving or remediating properties for site development. He has more than 25 years of experience in S/S treatment technology including work at the USEPA, technology developers and construction contractors. He is an author of 30 publications/papers on the subject of S/S and has been involved in a number of successful projects where marginal soil or sediment has been reused for “Brownfields” or other property development. Among other credentials, he is a LEED Accredited Professional by USGBC and a member of Deep Foundations Institute's Soil Mixing Committee.
