Video captured on the scene shows an eruption of flame that consumed the machine.

Local news affiliate KABC is reporting that a backhoe hit a gas line and caused a massive fire in a Los Angeles suburb. Homes were evacuated in the Woodland Hills neighborhood.

Fire officials told KABC that the backhoe/trailer hit a 4-inch gas main on Wednesday afternoon causing an eruption of flame that consumed the machine. Firefighters battled to contain the blaze.

Southern California Gas Company responded to shut down the gas.

No injuries were reported.
