Construction enthusiasts have even more to look forward to at the Chicago Construction Expo III. In addition to presentations by Stephen Tivy of PetroLiance and Roger Smith of Zurich Services Corporation, The Land Improvement Contractors of America (LICA) has agreed to sponsor three more seminars to complement the showcase of the latest models from all of the major manufacturers Jan. 7 and 8, 2009.

All seminars are free.

The LICA-sponsored seminars will take place Jan. 7 at the Renaissance Convention Center in Schaumburg, Ill.

“We’re excited about participating at the Chicago Expo,” said Jerry Biuso of LICA. “Our role is to educate the contrator. Basically, our job will be to help contractors run smarter, safer and more profitable business. All I really care about is the contractor. We’re here to promote LICA and safe educational programs to the industry.”

From 10 to 11 a.m. Jan. 7, Tom Woodcock, president of Seal the Deal will present “You’re Not Sellin’, They’re Buyin’!”

As a territory representative, Woodcock single-handedly increased a local distribution house’s revenue by 1,000 percent in 3 years. He designed and sold a national education program that received coverage by CNN & USA Today. Recent achievements include: training hundreds of sales representatives at a documented 98 percent approval training, increasing revenue by 200 percent for a local equipment dealer as manager of a rookie sales force, and negotiating multi-million dollar national contracts with mega-sized corporations. Woodcock’s extensive sales experience combined with his own personal sales education guarantees success.

With the economy all over the board, Woodcock will discuss how contractors stay competitive and get the edge — straight talk about the selling nature of the construction industry and how to maximize it in a down economy. He will bring a comprehensive sales approach with a bent towards contractors.

From 1 to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 7, John Deere’s Mike Boyle, excavator product consultant, and Kent Stickler, pull-type scrapers product consultant, will talk about “Paydirt: Mass Excavating Alternatives for Mass Profits.”

The presentation’s goal is to increase your knowledge of how equipment selection can impact profitability of large excavating jobs. Additionally, the discussion will compare the cost of moving different types of material with various types of equipment, and how different configurations of the same machine will increase efficiency on the job.

Other seminars offered by LICA will include

“Introduction to Adopting Positioning Technology for Construction” that explores positioning technologies relevant to earthmoving and “Invisible Structures,” basic overview of the products available for pervious pavement, hosted by Ted Dzierzbicki, Engineered Earth Systems.

LICA’s objective is to encourage high standards of workmanship in resource management, land improvement practices and to promote enterprises in land improvement contracting. This association of contractors brings together people having similar interests and opportunities for improving our natural resources with an adequate profit.

The Chicago Construction Expo III also will include “Never Buy Another Oil Sample,” “Is 500 Hours Really Safe,” and, “Hoisting the Curtain Off the New Crane Standard.”

Show hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Parking and admission are free.

The show is produced by the trade show division of Construction Equipment Guide.
