CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) _ A proposal to renovate the main runway and lighting fixtures at Charleston’s Yeager Airport hasbeen approved by the facility’s governing board.

Work on the $6.1-million project probably will begin in April, said Airport Director Rick Atkinson. The winning bid was submitted by West Virginia Paving of Dunbar.

The project will be financed with federal funds and passenger boarding fees collected by the airlines.

Atkinson said the construction should keep the main runway operational for another 25 years.

At the end of March, work was under way on a $970,000 addition to the airport’s main passenger terminal. When completed, it will house the Transportation Security Administration’s headquarters in West Virginia, which will employ 70.

The TSA headquarters is expected to be completed by mid-July.
