The Utility and Transportation Contractors Association (UTCA) has completed plans for its 41st Anniversary Convention, which is scheduled for Sept. 21 to 24, 2006, at the recently expanded Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City.

With the hotel’s new Havana Tower and Quarter, which features numerous shops, restaurants and other venues, one of the largest crowds is expected to participate in convention activities.

UTCA’s Friday convention luncheon will feature Steve Rizzo, nationally known humorist. Gov. Jon Corzine also is scheduled as a speaker at the luncheon. The program also will include the presentation of the 2006 Larry Gardner Memorial Award to George Taylor, founder of Taylor Oil.

The association’s Annual Exhibit, held in conjunction with the convention, will be available to convention attendees during the event. This exhibit includes approximately 120 firms and is sold out every year.

This year’s convention program also will include presentations by Tom Kean and Bob Menendez, candidates for the office of U.S. Senator of New Jersey.

The 2006 William Feather Memorial Award will be presented to Anthony Caruso of Carbro Construction. Mickey Stavola and Walter Earle, construction industry leaders for many years, will be inducted posthumously in the New Jersey Construction Industry Hall of Fame during the Saturday night convention.

UTCA includes approximately 1,100 member firms active in road, bridge, utility and hazardous waste remediation construction throughout New Jersey and surrounding states.
