ASV PT-60 Rubber Track Loader Offers Faster Operation, Improved Durability

Construction Equipment Guide

ASV’s PT-60 rubber track loader is a mid-sized 60-hp (44.7 kW) loader that runs on ASV’s rubber track undercarriage. It is a quick and powerful loader that operates in a wide range of ground conditions — including wet, soft or slippery conditions where other equipment cannot work at all.

The PT-60 replaces ASV’s former RC-60 rubber track loader that was introduced in 2004.

The new machine now includes a high-performance two-speed drive system that offers the choice of higher torque for digging in tough materials or higher top-end travel speed.

In low speed, the PT-60 can travel up to 6 mph (10 kmh); in high speed, the PT-60 runs as fast as 11 mph (17.7 kmh). Only ASV’s largest, most powerful rubber track loader, the PT-100, is rated faster with an 11.5 mph (18.5 kmh) maximum speed.

Complementing the PT-60’s fast travel speed is ASV’s undercarriage suspension system using rugged torsion axles to maximize the machine’s contact with the ground — even when traveling over objects or rough terrain. This gives the PT-60 increased traction and performance.

The PT-60 uses 24 wheels in its undercarriage to spread the machine’s weight over the entire length and width of its tracks. As a result, the machine’s 6,350-lb. (2,880 kg) operating weight is distributed down to only 3.6 psi (21.8 kPa) of ground pressure. That is less ground pressure than that of a person on foot. With such low ground pressure, the PT-60 can work productively in soft or wet ground conditions, making it the perfect machine for contractors and companies that need to be productive all year round regardless of weather and ground conditions.

Extremely low ground pressure also makes the PT-60 the best machine for work on environmentally sensitive surfaces such as landscaping, golf courses and wherever fragile underground systems need to be protected.

With the PT-60, ASV also introduces some new, exclusive track options. The machine’s standard track is a 15-in.-wide (38 cm) general purpose track with moderate treads for optimum operation and traction in the widest range of ground conditions. A special smooth turf track also is available, like that on the former RC-60 turf edition machines.

The turf track offers low-impact performance when on the most sensitive or fragile surfaces.

For use in very wet or snowy conditions, when extra traction is needed, the new extreme terrain track is now available. This new track is 16.5-in. (42 cm) wide so it offers even more flotation than the standard track. In addition, it offers extra deep treads for self-cleaning and added traction over the worst ground conditions.

The PT-60 is even more durable than the former RC-60. A new heavy-gauge steel hood now protects the engine compartment. Steel mesh panels on top and the rear of the hood provide ample airflow to the machine’s turbocharged diesel engine and cooling system.

Undercarriage enhancements also give the PT-60 better durability. Included are new steel rear idler wheels that readily shed dirt and foreign materials while providing longer service life. Other wheels on the PT-60 are rubber-coated to maximize the cushion and protection of the rubber tracks. In addition, idler wheel bearings now use premium metal face seals. These seals provide longer, more reliable protection of wheel bearings for years of trouble-free operation.

With a slightly wider stance than the former model, the PT-60 is even more maneuverable resulting in noticeably faster and easier ability to turn than the earlier model. Even at its new 66-in. (168 cm) overall width, the PT-60 is still one of the most narrow and maneuverable machines in its class. Compact size and turning ability make the PT-60 practical in applications where wider track loaders and skid steers cannot manage, according to the manufacturer.

Other refinements to the PT-60 include better upward visibility from the operator station, a new dash panel with more gauges, plus a completely new paint and decal package that includes ASV’s bold new logo.
