The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has received a 2008 Tranny Award for Environmental Enhancement in the field of storm water quality management.

The California Transportation Foundation presented this award to the Caltrans Stormwater Management Program at the 19th Annual Tranny Awards Ceremony.

“Stewardship is one of Caltrans’ five organizational goals,” said Caltrans Chief Engineer Richard Land. “This award is affirmation that we are headed in the right direction when it comes to preserving and enhancing California’s resources and assets.”

The Caltrans Stormwater Management Program is one of the most comprehensive and advanced programs in the nation.

In presenting the award, The California Transportation Foundation cited the Caltrans Stormwater Management Program’s innovative integrated storm water management approach on treating storm water run-off, its collaborative efforts and partnerships with other agencies on watershed protection, the development of new Best Management Practices, and its public outreach and education.

The Tranny Award comes on the heels of a very successful year for Caltrans’ Stormwater Program, which recently received national recognition with receipt of the 2007 National Clean Water Act Recognition Award from the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the 2007 Environmental Project of the Year Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Green California Leadership Award at the Green California Summit and Exposition.
