California Department of Transportation District 3 Director Jody Jones announced July 30 that Bao Vang has been awarded a $750 scholarship to pursue a future career in transportation.
She is a recent high school graduate and salutatorian of Lindhurst High School’s Class of 2007, graduating with a 4.2 grade point average. In 2006, Vang participated in an internship with the engineering firm of TRC Imbsen. In addition to her academics, Vang also spends an extensive amount of time volunteering in her community and especially enjoys participating in American Red Cross events.
She will be the recipient of the District’s Transportation Scholarship Program, funded in part by Caltrans employees and the California Transportation Foundation. The scholarship program was open to all high school seniors and first or second year college students residing in any of the District’s 11 counties who plan to pursue a career in the transportation industry.
Vang will be attending the structural engineering program at the University of California Davis in the fall where she plans to seek a degree in engineering.
“Ms. Vang is an exceptional student,” said District 3 Director Jody Jones. “We hope this scholarship will help her further her education and interest in transportation related careers.”
Caltrans is a department within the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency that operates and maintains California’s transportation system under the direction of Secretary Dale Bonner and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
