The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) awarded two transportation scholarships today. The two soon to be college freshmen will both be seeking an education in the civil engineering field.
Kristina Mai, a recent high school graduate from Folsom and Austin Lemire-Baeten, a recent high school graduate from Galt, are the 2012 Caltrans District 3 Transportation Scholarship Recipients. The $500 scholarships are jointly funded by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 3 employees, the California Transportation Foundation and Professional Engineers in California Government.
Mai, a recent honors graduate from Liberty Ranch High School in Galt, will be pursuing a career in civil engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the fall. In addition to maintaining a 4. 4 grade point average, Mai has volunteered in community service work.
Lemire-Baeten, a recent honors graduate from Vista Del Lago High School in Folsom, will be pursuing a career in civil engineering this fall at University of California Davis. Lemire-Baetin maintains 4.227 grade point average and finds time to volunteer in organizations such as “Big Brothers Big Sisters” and “Habitat for Humanity”.
“We are pleased to give these scholarships to very well rounded and deserving young people with a dream of pursuing a career in transportation,” said District 3 Director Jody Jones. District 3 staff presented the checks to Mai and Lemire-Baeten during an award ceremony, followed by a luncheon in Marysville.
