Construction Equipment Guide

As part of its display at MINExpo 2012, Caterpillar Inc. showcased a wide range of electric power solutions for the mining industry. Visitors to the company’s booth saw the recently introduced C175-20 generator set. Producing up to 4 mW of power, the C175- 20 provides the greatest power output and lowest installed footprint cost of any high-speed diesel generator set available on the market, according to the manufacturer.

Caterpillar has power systems engineered to deliver durability, reliability and value, to meet the varying needs of mining: from packaged electric power and rental solutions to factory direct, turnkey power plants. Cat electric power solutions are used in all phases of the mining business: exploration, construction and production. And with ratings ranging from 10 kW to 200 mW, Cat generator sets can power mining operations in all sizes — with engines that run on a variety of fuels including diesel, gaseous fuels, crude oil, heavy fuel oil and dual-fuel (both reciprocating and turbine).

Because many Cat generator sets run on the same engines as the large mobile machines used in mining operations, maintenance is simplified. Onsite inventory is reduced because the mobile and stationary equipment share common parts.

In addition to complete power solutions, the Caterpillar team can provide financing, engineering services, on site construction, environmental studies, supervision and commissioning, operation and training, and onsite maintenance and repair. With single source and turnkey support from the global Cat dealer network, Cat power systems can help keep any mining site running smoothly and safely, according to the manufacturer.

Caterpillar offers worldwide product support, with parts and service available globally through the Cat authorized service and dealer network. In addition, dealer service technicians are trained to service every aspect of Cat equipment.
