Construction Equipment Guide

Caterpillar’s 906H and 908H compact wheel loaders are completely redesigned to deliver higher performance and more versatility. Standard features include a skid steer loader-style coupler, differential lock, Z-bar linkage and a productive work environment. Options include a high-speed configuration, ride control system and high-flow hydraulics. H-Series compact loaders are productive in industrial, landscaping and general construction applications.

A key feature of the new machines is a universal coupler that accommodates most Cat skid steer and multi terrain loader work tools. The coupler extends the versatility of the compact loaders and makes it easy to integrate them into a fleet of Cat machines, according to the manufacturer.

A Cat C3.4 engine powers each of the wheel loaders. The engine in the 906H is rated at 70 net hp (52 kW), while the 908H version delivers 80 net hp (59 kW). The C3.4 meets EPA Tier III emissions regulations while delivering performance, life and fuel economy.

An oscillating chassis improves traction and stability. Standard differential lock in both axles can be engaged on the go to power through poor underfoot conditions. Z-bar linkage enables powerful digging forces and parallel lift. It also allows increased visibility to the work tool and dump clearance, so the operator can work faster and more efficiently.

An enhanced hydraulic system increases 906H lift capacity with forks by 15 percent over the model it replaces. The rated operating load for the bucket on the 906H has been increased by 7 percent.

Both models can be equipped with a variety of options. A high-speed option increases top travel speed to 22 mph (35 kmh), expanding the loader’s application range. Ride control system improves operator comfort and reduces spillage, particularly at high speeds or in rough underfoot conditions.

A 33-gpm (125 Lpm) high-flow hydraulics system allows the 906H and 908H to use additional work tools.

Operators can work comfortably and productively in the 906H and 908H whether the machine is equipped with a canopy or cab. A 906H with cab is only 8 ft. 1 in. tall, so the machine can work in more areas, including tight spaces and indoor environments. Both models offer spacious operator stations, enhanced visibility, and low-effort, intuitive joystick controls to reduce fatigue. An easy-to-read digital display cluster keeps the operator informed about system conditions.

From a service perspective, the two compact wheel loaders offer speed and convenience. Maintenance points are grouped together and accessible from the ground. A swing-out hydraulic oil cooler makes radiator cleanup faster and easier. Vertical spin-off fluid filters reduce maintenance time. S.O.S. valves and pressure taps allow faster, more convenient fluid sampling, and an Electronic Technician port permits quick, accurate diagnostics with Cat service tools.
