Volvo Construction Equipment & Services California Inc. (formerly Mathews Machinery) has signed on as the authorized Champion dealer for California.

“The recent signing makes Volvo Construction Equipment & Services California Inc. the exclusive Champion dealer for the entire state,” said Woody Ferrell, vice president, sales and marketing of Champion Motor Graders. “We look forward to a long and mutually rewarding relationship.”

Phillip Ransom, corporate sales manager of Volvo Construction Equipment & Services California Inc., said that the Champion line of compact graders will serve an established niche in the marketplace and also will be a nice complement to the company’s existing line of equipment. “We’re going to bring 6 Champion motorgraders into stock, which we’ll place throughout the state,” said Ransom. “Presently the C80/C86 C is the machine of choice in our market.”

With six existing locations spread throughout California, Volvo Construction Equipment & Services California has served customers in aggregate, demolition, recycling, agriculture, road construction and civil engineering markets since 2002. Volvo Construction Equipment & Services California has the distinction of being the only heavy equipment sales and rental dealer that covers the entire state.

According to Ransom, “Covering the entire state gives us a competitive advantage. If a contractor moves his machine from one region of the state to another, he knows he can count on the same level of service and support.”

Volvo Construction Equipment & Services California expects to expand its customer base by pursuing new segments in the market, especially parking lot contractors and smaller grading and paving firms who routinely work in precise, tight spaces, and have to be concerned about operating costs as well. “With the acquisition of the Champion line, we’ll definitely be entering into that arena,” said Ransom. “Eventually, we will be offering the entire package – graders, pavers, compactors, and any other equipment a paving contractor may need.”

Production Class Graders Coming

Volvo Construction Equipment & Services California also is looking forward to carrying the new Champion C110 and C116 C series production class graders that were recently introduced at ConExpo. “In bridging the gap between traditional compact graders and full-size roadbuilding machines, Champion has come up with a product that will be a perfect fit for many of our customers,” said Ransom.
