Cianbro to Install SCR System at Holyoke Power Plant

Cianbro Corporation was recently awarded a contract to install a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system from Holyoke Water Power Company, a subsidiary of Northeast Utilities (NU), for its coal-fired Mt. Tom Station in Holyoke, MA.

The ceremonial groundbreaking event included Linc Dennison Sr., Cianbro vice president and Regional general manager; John Murray, Mt. Tom Station manager; Larry DeSimone, NU Enterprises Inc. president; William Quinlan, Select Energy acting COO; Jim Dougherty, Babcock Power Environmental president; and Dennis Brown, Northeast Generation Services director of Asset Operations.

Cianbro Fabrication & Coatings Corporation also was awarded a contract to fabricate the project’s structural steel from a subsidiary of Babcock Power Inc. (BPI), based in Danvers, MA, who has the contract to design and supply the SCR system for Mt. Tom.

Working within the operating facility, Cianbro will install the SCR system within a 150- by 200-ft., tight work area.

The construction scope of work includes:

• excavation and placement of new concrete spread footings for a six-column, 70-ft. tall support structure;

• structural steel erection;

• SCR component ductwork installation;

• construction of an aqueous ammonia tank loading and storage facility;

• installation of piping and electrical runs; and,

• tie-in to the plant.
